Two men have been arrested after police seized a gun and drugs worth €590,000 following a series of raids yesterday.

A garda spokesman said the searches were part of “ongoing investigations into the distribution of controlled drugs and related offenses in the Tallaght area”.

Gardaí attached to the Serious Crime Unit at Tallaght Station Gardai recovered €50,000 worth of cocaine and arrested two men during the operation in the Maplewood area of ​​Tallaght shortly after 10am yesterday morning.

In a follow-up operation, a house in Dublin 24 was also searched, leading to the discovery of further quantities of cocaine worth €420,000 and methamphetamine worth €120,000.

Gardai also discovered a firearm during the search.

A garda spokesman said the arrested men have been charged and will appear in court later this month.

Drugs seized during operation in Tallaght

“Both men were detained at a Garda station in the Dublin region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

They have since been charged and released from Garda custody to appear at Tallaght District Court later this month.

“The seized drugs are subject to analysis by the FSI.

“The operation was led by the Serious Crime Unit supported by uniformed Gardaí and community policing units based at Tallaght station.

“Investigations are ongoing.” The seizures were made as part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national drug strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2 July 2021.

Operation Tara aims to dismantle, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.
